The Icelandic Horse
Often called the horse of the Gods.
The Icelandic horse came across the ocean with the first Nordics that settled on Iceland around the 7th century and originates from the early breeds of horses. They have lived for over 1000 years isolated on Iceland.
It is a primal-race and has that special trot or canter, the “tølt” or its “flying pass”. These special paces have made Icelandic horses gain popularity.
The “tølt” is a fast four-paced movement, and is the same movement as the trot.
When the horse “tølts” it lowers its back and raises its head and neck.
The people from iceland call the“tølt” “the gift of the Gods”, because its comfortable way of riding.
The rider is almost sitting still in the saddle while the horse “flows” across the fields.
